MATANEWS, Jakarta - China’s leading automotive manufacturer, BYD (Build Your Dreams), has reinforced its commitment to supporting Indonesia's government in establishing a robust electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. A key part of this initiative is the construction of a new manufacturing plant in Subang, West Java, which is expected to generate 18,000 new jobs.
This commitment was conveyed to Indonesia’s Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, during a visit to BYD's headquarters in Shenzhen, China, on Monday, December 16, 2024.
The meeting included strategic discussions regarding the expansion of BYD's investments in Indonesia, including plans to enhance production capacity at the Subang manufacturing facility. Through these efforts, BYD aims to accelerate the development of Indonesia's EV industry and bolster the country's electrification ecosystem.

BYD has also accelerated its timeline for the completion of the Subang plant. Initially scheduled for early 2026, the facility is now targeted for completion by the fourth quarter of 2025. This adjustment reflects BYD’s responsiveness to rising EV market demand in Indonesia and underscores its commitment to significantly reducing carbon emissions.
Minister Rosan assured BYD of the Indonesian government’s full support in expediting the realization of its investment. He also highlighted the government’s coordination with multiple ministries to fast-track infrastructure development, such as road access and logistical facilities in industrial zones. Moreover, incentives, including streamlined import processes for machinery, are being prepared to support the transformation of the EV industry.
“The expansion of BYD’s manufacturing facility in Subang is projected to create over 18,000 new jobs, a substantial increase from the initial projection of 8,700 workers. This development will also facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technical skills to the local workforce,” Rosan stated on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
Liu Xueliang, BYD’s General Manager for the Asia-Pacific region, expressed his gratitude for the Indonesian government’s support. He emphasized BYD’s commitment to advancing Indonesia’s EV ecosystem through increased investment, technological innovation, and expanded production capacity.
“We believe this initiative will not only expand export opportunities and meet domestic market demands but also position Indonesia as a leading hub for EV manufacturing in the region,” Liu remarked.
BYD’s investment in the new Subang plant is envisioned to enhance Indonesia's competitiveness in the EV and renewable energy sectors. The company aims to develop a skilled workforce and contribute significantly to the country’s sustainable development goals. (Wly)
